Goals

Stepping Stones places a strong emphasis on allowing children to build their knowledge based upon their experiences. We believe that these experiences promote critical thinking, problem solving skills, and self-esteem, all of which help them to nurture and discover their sense of self and ultimately preparing them for a successful future. Our goal is to provide an environment and program consistent with the highest standards that will allow our students to develop to their maximum potential. The areas that we emphasize within our teaching are as follows:

Social and Emotional:
  • To help develop feelings of acceptance by peers and teachers
  • To develop a positive self-image and the sense of self-acceptance
  • To learn to accept and adjust to changes and disappointment
  • To encourage a sense of security
  • To help students express themselves and release hostility and tension in a socially acceptable manner
  • To use communication to express self
  • To develop positive conflict resolution
  • To value family relationships and understand the importance of obeying parents and teachers
  • To learn the art of sharing
  • To begin showing empathy and kindness to family and friends
  • To participate in child-to-child and child-to-adult interactions
  • To willingly participate and contribute to group discussions

Intellectual/Cognitive:
  • To develop feelings of competence and satisfaction in the mastery of new skills and concepts
  • To build a positive attitude toward education for the present and the future
  • To help develop a sense of responsibility
  • To stimulate curiosity and imagination and contribute to the development of ideas and concepts
  • To gain a deeper understanding and a greater awareness and appreciation of the world around them
  • To teach basic educational programs at the pace of students in the areas of science, social science, language arts, mathematics, literature, art, music, dramatic play, and cooking.
